Ten’s of thousands of flip flops are washed up on our shores each year, but have you ever thought what your flip flops are made of? In fact, most flip flops contain a man made element, whether that is plastic or artificial rubber. This means, as they enter the ocean tiny micro plastics break away, polluting the oceans. Man made rubber also releases pollutants into the ocean in the form of petroleum based compounds.
Waves are looking to make a stand. By crafting our flip flops from natural rubber, we are taking a step to stop pollution of our oceans.
Natural rubber is:
Not only does natural rubber already provide great benefits to the sustainability of the environment, but we go one step further. Our manufacturing plant takes worn & used waves flip flops and the rubber offcuts from production and puts these into a recycling process meaning they can be used in a new product rather than going into the environment to biodegrade.
